The Hava Soil Series
Annual Water Budget
The Hava soil series receives on average about 50 mm more yearly precipitation compared to the Bullards soil series. In addition, the Bullards series experiences a much higher evapotranspiration rate over the summer months, resulting in a period of water deficit. The Hava series does not experience a similar period of deficit due to the fact that evapotranspiration does not remove more water than what is usually available as plant available water. Thus, the Hava experiences summer periods of use rather than deficit. Despite this difference between the two soils, they both experience recharge at relatively the same rate over September through October.
Land Use and Management Implications
The Hava and Bullards series have very similar land uses. SoilWeb lists timber production as the main use for both series, followed by wildlife habitat. Both soils have O horizons, indicating established and mature plant populations. SoilWeb also lists populations several native species of conifers as common on both soils. This indicates well-draining and sandy textured upper horizons. While both soils seem to relatively uncultivated and unmanaged, and leaching of weathering products would likely be major problems to be addressed in land management.
